Mory, do you mean baleen like they used in women's corsets or buggy whips?

Yes, the Baleen from the mouth of the whale sifts the microrganisms from water as the whale blows the water out. It was slit and used as corset ribs - flexible but very strong. The Native Eskimo from Barter Island West used to cut it in extreamly thin threads and weave (In Ice Water)it into many craft items.(It can only be worked in Ice Water)
The art is lost forever....a small four inch basket can go for three thousand today. So fakes are coming in from China..& Russia...
